Next Storm to Affect the Northeast This Weekend
Wednesday morning
A weak low pressure area and cold front brought enough snow to snarl traffic during Chicago's morning commute. It will continue to produce snow showers as it continues toward the middle of New York and Pennsylvania later today and this evening. A few flurries could make it all the way to the East coast. Today's video takes a look at one scenario for the weekend and a first look at Christmas Eve.
The weekend storm has a colder look from recent model runs than what I saw yesterday. Part of the reason seems to be the storm doesn't get as strong, and so less warm air charges in from the east and south. One problem is the models portray inconsistent organization, somewhat reminiscent of last Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles played at home in a first half whiteout while 30 miles to the north there was just light snow.
We should be able to give you a better idea about the storm as it actually starts to materialize tomorrow and Friday. Here is one snapshot from this morning's NAM run, depiciting the precipitation it predicts for Saturday between 1 and 7 p.m. ET. The rain/snow line should be close to halfway between the northernmost red dashed line and the southernmost blue dashed line (pretty much following the Pennsylvania-Maryland border).
