Trackdown: Help find Miguel Sotello-Trujillo's killer

This week, Dallas police need help to track down a man who used an AR-15 to shoot and kill a 22-year-old.

Dallas Police Homicide Detective Edward Parker says working a murder case, like 22-year-old Miguel Sotello-Trujillo's death, is like solving a puzzle.

"The information you have is just a small piece of the puzzle," the detective said. "But it's putting my puzzle together."

Parker says video of Sotello-Trujillo's murder on April 20 is a piece of the puzzle. He was killed in the 1000 block of Regal Row around 11: 30 p.m.

"There were races going on -- the street races," the detective explained. "The complainant in this incident, he wasn't involved in the races. He was just out here observing -- him and his brother."

As people were leaving after the race, one car that had a camera rolling on the dash was behind Sotello-Trujillo's vehicle and his killer's vehicle.

Video captured the shooter's dark green Chevy Silverado with 32-inch rims.

"And you can see him leaning out of the vehicle with hand gestures trying to start a confrontation," Parker said.

Video shows the driver of the dark green pick-up half-way through the window and jaw jacking at Sotello-Trujillo and his brother.

"He had an AR-15 type assault rifle," Parker said. "And he actually hit the complainant with the butt of the rifle.

With danger escalating, Sotello-Trujillo's brother drove off, sensing gunfire was coming. As they were driving off, shot popped off.

"The suspect in the dark green truck actually leaned out," Parker said. "And as he was driving away, that's when he discharged several rounds at the truck."

That's when Sotello-Trujillo was shot and killed. Police say he was a good, hardworking kid without any footprints outside the law.

The piece of the puzzle Parker needs to put Sotello-Trujillo's killer behind bars is the emerald green Chevy Silverado sitting on uniquely-large rims.

"Personally, I never heard of 32-inch rims on trucks, but they're out there," the detective said.

And for now, Sotello-Trujillo's killer is out there too.

Anyone with information on Sotello-Trujillo's murder is urged to call (214) 671-3630. A reward is being offered.

Dallas police have a group of murders that are unsolved and growing old because leads have gone cold.

For several of the cold cases, police are hanging their hopes for an arrest on the public's eyes and surveillance video. They are now turning to FOX 4's Shaun Rabb to help 'Trackdown' the criminals.
