An ongoing winter storm shutdown travel and has the potential to be the biggest in years for the Baltimore area. Areas of snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue, heavy at times into Sunday night. A total of 6-10 inches of snow and sleet are forecast. A foot or more is anticipated well north and west of the city, where less sleet occurs with lower amounts farther south in Maryland due to more sleet and freezing rain. Streets and highways will be snow packed and slippery for a time even after the storm departs. Frigid air following the storm will result in little or no natural melting for a few days.
