Through midday Monday, snow spreading across downtown Chicago will total 6-10 inches. Sharp variations in snowfall totals will occur between the northern and western suburbs to southern suburbs. Heavy and persistent bands of lake-effect snow can rapidly reduce visibility and result in slow travel, especially during the Monday morning commute. In the heaviest bands, the potential remains for snowfall rates to exceed 2 inches per hour at times. If more persistent lake-effect bands shift slightly, higher accumulations can occur in the Chicago metro area.
