The first severe weather outbreak of the year triggered tornadoes, extensive damage and flooding across the Mississippi and Ohio valleys at the start of the weekend.
Both short-term and long-term flooding will continue over a large part of the central United States as more rain falls and runoff continues through next week.
Heavy rain left communities in the central U.S. under water, while Mt. Sinabung erupted and spewed ash more than 100 miles away.
Numerous water rescues have been reported and many families in flood-prone areas have been forced to evacuate following days of heavy rain this week.
