Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business puts AccuWeather among the top 50 analytics innovators in the U.S.
AccuWeather Global Weather Center – January 22, 2018 – AccuWeather, the largest and fastest-growing source of weather forecasts and warnings as well as a global leader of digital media and weather-related big data, was presented with an Analytics 50 award by Drexel University's LeBow College of Business during a ceremony at the university’s Philadelphia campus.
The Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 is a national recognition of organizations that use innovative analytics to solve business challenges. Honorees were selected by a panel of researchers and practitioners based on the complexity of the business challenge, the analytics solution implemented, and the solution’s business impact on the organization.
Joining a group of awardees, including top professional and consumer companies, AccuWeather was recognized for developing an analytics solution that helps businesses understand and anticipate the business impacts of weather, enabling businesses in a wide range of vertical industries to improve performance, produce higher revenues and lower costs, while reducing risk.
Building on its 55-year history of translating weather forecasts and warnings into actionable business insights, AccuWeather collaborated with Google’s Cloud Technology Partner Program to launch a service that enables businesses to make data-driven decisions about the impacts of weather on performance. The service uncovers new levels of business intelligence by combining proprietary statistical analytics and predictive modeling; global real-time and historical weather data for locations around the world; and proprietary metrics.
AccuWeather's D3 Data Driven Decisions analytics group takes complex data models and translates them into custom, actionable insights to help clients make the best business decisions. Analyzing the impact of weather behaviors, like floods, hurricanes, blizzards, tornadoes, and hail, allows clients to proactively optimize business performance in all weather conditions.
“Using analytics and data to deliver the most accurate forecasts—whenever and wherever people want that information—is the foundation of AccuWeather’s business,” said David Mitchell, Vice President, Digital Media, Emerging Platforms, at AccuWeather. “We are extremely grateful that our ongoing analytics innovations have received this recognition.”
The Analytics 50 honor arrives on the heels of a study by independent industry tracker ForecastWatch, which demonstrated the Superior Accuracy™ of the company’s forecasts. This analysis of over 30 million forecasts – the most comprehensive study of forecast accuracy ever undertaken globally – concluded that AccuWeather had the highest level of accuracy in all three categories ForecastWatch verified, temperature, precipitation and wind.
