Global digital weather leader continues commitment to providing life-saving weather forecasts to the two-thirds of the world who lack internet access, impacting people’s lives.

AccuWeather Global Weather Center -- March 03, 2015 -- AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in weather information and digital media, announces its continued commitment to Facebook's Internet.org mission of connecting the two-thirds of the world who don’t already have internet access by providing critical weather information and updates. Internet.org users can access AccuWeather’s detailed and localized weather information with Superior Accuracy(TM) through the Internet.org app.

Internet.org is a Facebook-led initiative with the goal of making affordable internet access available to the two-thirds of the world who are not yet connected, an estimated 5 billion people, bringing the same opportunities that the connected world has today to everyone.

“We are proud to support Facebook and Internet.org’s mission since its launch and moving forward,” said Steven Smith, AccuWeather Chief Digital Officer. “AccuWeather is committed to making peoples’ lives better by offering timely and informative weather forecasts that are localized for their locations and that are actionable, helping people plan and prepare for weather situations. The technology we use is unique with patents issued to protect it in many countries throughout the world. Facebook is helping us make this commitment a reality by distributing our personalized and accurate weather news and information in new locations through Internet.org.”

AccuWeather receives and processes more than 9.5 billion requests for its accurate and personalized weather forecasts every day from locations all over the world. The AccuWeather.com app for Internet.org provides users weather forecasts with Superior Accuracy™ in more than 100 languages and dialects for every location on Earth for free. Many forecast types are available, including severe weather notices, hourly, 3-day, weekend, and 45-Day extended weather forecasts. The app also includes weather radar where available and satellite maps, broadcast-quality weather videos and news, and hurricane and tropical storm information.

AccuWeather has partnered with Facebook since the historic initial launch of Internet.org in Zambia on July 31, 2014, followed by launches in Tanzania, Kenya, the Republic of Colombia, Ghana, and the most recent launch in India on February 10, 2015.

During its more than five decades of delivering weather forecasts with Superior Accuracy that people depend on daily, AccuWeather has protected people, property, and profits, reducing property damage and business losses by the billions. Demonstrating this commitment, when monsoonal rain fell across northwestern India leading to severe flooding across Kashmir in 2014, AccuWeather forecasts showed Superior Accuracy by forecasting the threat for flooding rainfall in forecasts that explicitly warned for the threat of flooding. Also in 2014, when triple-digit heat hit Mumbai, India, AccuWeather issued early and accurate warnings of the exceptionally high heat in time for customers to take necessary precautions. Today, more than one billion people worldwide rely on AccuWeather every day.
