But just because you want to avoid being in the winter weather doesn't mean that watching it onscreen is off-limits. It's the best time of the year to indulge in some classic cold-weather flicks. These ten winter-related movies include exciting action titles, great comedies, and fun holiday favorites, so there's something for everyone. 1. Groundhog Day
This crowd-pleasing comedy stars Bill Murray as a cynical weatherman who becomes stranded in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, when he is assigned to cover their annual Groundhog Day celebration. Through an unexplainable twist of fate, he begins to relive the same day (February 2nd, to be exact) over and over again, caught in a continuous time loop that he is unable to break. With no end in sight, he embarks on a quest for personal fulfillment, attempting each day to discover his own meaning to life, and tries to win the heart of his love interest, played by Andie MacDowell. 2. The Revenant
Based on a true story, The Revenant stars Leonardo DiCaprio as American fur trapper Hugh Glass, who must fight for survival against brutal odds. During an intense quest to seek revenge against a former comrade, played by Tom Hardy, he is forced to work against the elements of a harsh and unforgiving South Dakota winter after he becomes injured and is abandoned by his party. 3. Frozen
Few films have seen such sensational success as Disney's Frozen, which has inspired a slew of merchandise, a short film, and a brand new sequel. This family-friendly feature tells the story of Anna and her sister Elsa, a Queen who has the magical powers to control snow and ice, turning their kingdom of Arendelle into a perpetually frozen land. 4. Bridget Jones's Diary

6. The Shining
Based on the horror novel by Stephen King, this masterful film by Stanley Kubrick takes place at a grand hotel with a dark past. A writer, played by Jack Nicolson, agrees to occupy the hotel during the winter with his family. He acts as the caretaker while the hotel is closed for the season. When the family becomes snowed-in after a bad blizzard, they are confronted with mysterious dangers within the hotel itself and must fight for their own survival against mounting odds. 7. Fargo
A unique black comedy/thriller with a cast full of quirky characters, this film by the Coen brothers has reached cult-classic status. Set in the bleak landscape of a cold Minnesota winter, the story revolves around a planned kidnapping scheme gone wrong, a pair of thugs whose murders leave a trail. 8. Home Alone

10. Snowpiercer
In this futuristic and dystopian tale, the planet has plunged into a second ice age as a result of a climate change disaster, transforming Earth into an uninhabitable environment. The survivors live on a moving train called the Snowpiercer, which operates under a regime that divides the classes unfairly, with the affluent members living comfortably near the front, and the impoverished occupying the back.
