AccuWeather Provides the Only Advance Notice for San Antonio Tornado

A tornado caused significant damage across parts of San Antonio on July 15, toppling trees, damaging structures and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
On the morning of July 15, 2026, an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph struck northwest San Antonio, Texas, producing damage along its 4-mile path.
As has been the case with many other situations, AccuWeather was the ONLY known source to provide advance notice of the damaging tornado. The National Weather Service (NWS) and all other known sources did not issue a tornado warning until the tornado had been on the ground for five minutes.
AccuWeather's team of expert meteorologists detected the rapidly developing tornado and quickly issued a lifesaving SkyGuard® Tornado Warning at 7:41 a.m. CDT, providing three minutes of advance notice before the tornado touched down. This invaluable lead time was provided directly to decision-makers by text, phone and email before any other known source, giving businesses and communities time to seek safe shelter and better prepare, potentially saving lives.
According to the NWS storm survey, the tornado began at 7:44 a.m. CDT. The NWS did not issue a Tornado Warning until 7:49 a.m. CDT, five minutes after the tornado had already touched down.
Residents and businesses relying solely on NWS warnings or warnings from all other known sources received no advance warning before the tornado began.

People and businesses relying on NWS warnings or on warnings from other known sources that repackage NWS warnings would have been less prepared for a destructive tornado unless they were using AccuWeather's Severe Weather Warnings.
