Nine days in advance and before any other source, AccuWeather warned businesses by issuing a Storm Potential Outlook, which accurately predicted the risk for heavy snow across the Northeast.

Businesses up and down the East Coast saw significant impacts from a nasty nor’easter that brought heavy snow and strong winds and caused major disruptions, including hundreds of thousands of power outages, road closures, and logistical issues. AccuWeather For Business clients who subscribed to AccuWeather’s Snow Warning Service received location-specific start times before, during, and after the storm. AccuWeather’s 100+ meteorologists provided one-on-one consultations with businesses to help them navigate the nor’easter.  Storm warning meteorologists team took several extra conference calls with a department of transportation client in Pennsylvania leading up to the storm to help them plan for it.

MOST ADVANCED NOTICE

Businesses were better prepared and were able to make the right decisions thanks to the advance notice that AccuWeather For Business provided. Schools were able to make plans to go virtual or cancel classes. Businesses could change staffing, decide whether to close and hire contractors well in advance to remove snow.

• Two months in advance and ahead of any other source, AccuWeather’s Long Range team correctly identified the mid-March timeframe for a heightened risk of nor’easters.

• Nine days in advance and before any other source, AccuWeather for Business issued a Storm Potential Outlook, which accurately predicted the risk for heavy snow across the Northeast during the middle of March.

• AccuWeather issued its first snow map to the public on March 9, four days before the storm and before any other source.
