Q: I just now downloaded the client application. Now what do I do?

A: The first thing to do is examine the client default settings and configure your Interests, Triggers, and delivery option Settings. Interests are predefined categories that serve as a broad filtering mechanism for alerts issued under a category you are interested in receiving news from. Triggers serve as personal keywords to provide exact matching to article headline or story content, and will deliver alerts (regardless of Interests/categories) when a successful match is made. Delivery option Settings control how new incoming alerts will be delivered; including the alert popup (typically default) or mini slider windows, a persistent news ticker window, and/or periodic email digests summarizing alerts received. Email settings are generally high priority (Breaking News) and/or summary digests delivered to you in HTML or plain text. Please refer to the online documentation to learn more about Interests, Triggers, and Settings.

Q: How do I interact with the client application?

A: The main window to the client application is displayed by left-clicking with your mouse on the branded system tray icon (lower right area in your desktop toolbar). The main window displays a number of tabs, which are activated by selecting the tab itself to present the respective tab view within the window.

The client application menu is accessed by right-clicking with your mouse on the branded system tray icon (lower right area in your desktop toolbar). The menu provides access to each of the tabs within the main client window, in addition to a number of controls for the client application. Please refer to the online documentation for more information regarding client controls via the Application Menu.

Q: Where do I find the help files / documentation for the client application?

A: All feature-based documentation is in the form of context-specific help. With exception to individual menu entries, all main tab window and dialog box forms contain a help button in the lower right corner of the form.

For any given tab or dialog box, selecting the Help icon will bring up a separate window displaying the associated information. Relevant topics within the help content itself will also be hypertext linked throughout the document, providing additional means of navigation to you.

Access to the entire Help document is also supported near the top of the main application menu, as shown. To view the Table of Contents for the associated client application help files / documentation, select the following link: Help.

Q: When I attempt to enter certain words as a Trigger, I get an error stating "You must remove these particular words from your News Triggers list before it can be saved".

A: Some words are disallowed from use as triggers because they may generate too many alerts you are not interested in due to their common usage in all news stories. Words like "the", "or", "for", etc., fit this category. Other words may generate only warnings, and as such, can remain in the active trigger list. For more information with regard to disallowed trigger words, please refer to Stop and Warning Words in the online documentation.

Q: I'm running anti-virus / anti-popup software that appears to prevent viewing alerts. What do I need to do?

A: Many anti-virus programs and even some browsers contain built-in suppression of popups. Ads, and / or images. The default settings of such software may interfere with the normal operation of this program.

For example, Norton Internet Security™ may require you to disable Ad Blocking, but not Popup Windows, as shown below.

For your particular software, experiment with similar configuration schemes beginning with the most conservative settings and reattempting to view your alerts between changes.

Email settings include how you want your email delivered (in digest form every 1, 2 or 4 hours or once per day; in regular text or with HTML formatting). You can also check the box which reads "Deliver high priority alerts to email", which when set will send urgent breaking news to your designated email address immediately when it happens, rather than waiting for the digest.

Q: I see alerts received within the Alert tab window, but I noticed these alerts never popped in the alert popup window. Why is that?

A: If an alert is sent out as a low priority alert (identified with a black border square around the N icon, within the Alert tab view of the main client window), it is programmed to be sent only to your current list of alerts and not pop an alert window. Only Normal or High Priority type alerts will display within the popup alert window.
