Cross-platform technology includes unique, hyper-local AccuWeather MinuteCast for all iOS device users AccuWeather Global Weather Center – January 8, 2015 – AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in weather information and digital media, today announced it has launched an update to its iOS application that will provide one universal app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users everywhere. All AccuWeather App users now have instant access to AccuWeather MinuteCast®, the only global minute-by-minute precipitation forecast for a person’s exact street address or GPS location, across their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. AccuWeather MinuteCast was first introduced to users of the AccuWeather for iPhone and iPod touch app in 2014, and with this newest app update, the popular forecast only available from AccuWeather is now also available to iPad AccuWeather App users.

“Providing AccuWeather MinuteCast to all iOS app users supports our ongoing dedication to bringing the best and most relevant localized forecasts to all people across the planet,” said Steven Smith, Chief Digital Officer of AccuWeather. “Users of the app can automatically download it to all of their iOS devices if they choose to. With this latest app update from AccuWeather, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users everywhere are now able to make more informed decisions about their daily and long-range plans with consistent content designed to deliver a personal and innovative weather experience.”

In addition to MinuteCast and the universal app functionality, the AccuWeather App provides severe weather notices, weather animations illustrating the weather forecast for right now, each of the next 72 hours, and each of the next 15 days, and animated weather radar and maps for tracking the storm’s path. The weather radar is currently available for the United States, Canada, Northern Europe, and Japan. Other popular features include the Local Forecast Summary, a brief summary of what users can expect from the weather over the next 3-5 days, and widgets. The widgets provide a summary of what users can expect from today’s weather and are easily accessible from the Today screen through the device’s Notification Center.

AccuWeather MinuteCast includes precipitation type and intensity, as well as start and end times for precipitation. It gives users by-the-minute precipitation forecasts for the next two hours, set for their exact street or GPS location, with the Superior Accuracy™ that is AccuWeather’s hallmark. AccuWeather MinuteCast is uniquely supported by both national and international patented technology, and is currently available for the contiguous United States, Canada, Japan, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom and parts of the Czech Republic with additional locations to come.

The AccuWeather App is available for free on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com.
