..Elevated Water Levels and Ice Shove Possible Through Monday Afternoon... A series of storms moving north through the Bering Sea and into the Southern Chukchi Sea today will bring very strong south winds gusting as high as 75 mph today through and north of the Bering Strait and winds gusting to 60 mph along the outer coastal areas south of the Bering Strait. The strong winds will produce elevated water levels. The strong winds and elevated water levels may push ice inland around Hooper Bay, and from Nome to the Bering Strait. Water will be pushed up through cracks in the ice, and along the shoreline on south and west facing shorelines. Residents should move items well above the normal high tide line and off the ice to prevent loss. For the latest forecasts go to www.weather.gov/fairbanks.
