Storm Amy will bring heavy rain on Friday and Saturday and this may lead to some transport disruption and flooding. What to expect: Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, with delays or cancellations to train and bus services possible Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads or landslides Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life Further details: A band of rain, briefly heavy, will sweep northeast across the warning area during Friday afternoon and evening. Frequent showers will then follow from the west with some prolonged spells of heavy rain expected across northwest Scotland. Accumulations of 40 to 60 mm are likely on hills, and in excess of 80 mm or more across the Northwest Highlands. Following on from recent rain this may lead to some flooding. The rain will be accompanied by very strong winds which will lead to some poor driving conditions. What Should I Do? Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
