WATCH: Firefighters run for their lives as out-of-control truck slides down icy I-94 amid snow storm
Emergency crews were responding to a crash along I-94 near Comstock Township in Michigan when a box truck barreled into them, forcing firefighters to run for their lives.
Firefighters took off running when a truck hit their firetruck as they worked the scene of an accident in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, on Dec. 12 amid snowy road conditions. No one was injured in the incident.
Emergency responders along an icy Interstate 94 in Comstock Township, Michigan, ran for their lives Thursday morning when a box truck driver lost control, skidded along the slippery highway and slammed into a fire truck and other emergency vehicles responding to a separate crash.
The hazardous weather created difficult driving conditions that resulted in multiple vehicle collisions and slide-offs, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office said the truck hit two vehicles, one belonging to the Comstock Fire Department and the other to Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
Photos from police show the extent of the damage from the crash. The video shows the fire crew running, with one of them knocked to the ground. No injuries were reported, however, and police warned drivers to use extreme caution in the severe weather.
"We urge everyone to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary during severe winter weather," Sheriff Rick Fuller said. "If you must be on the road, please use extreme caution, reduce your speed, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Your safety—and the safety of first responders—depends on it."
