Katia will continue to unleash dangerous and life-threatening impacts across eastern Mexico into the weekend.
Katia made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane early Friday night just north of Tecolutla, Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. The storm has since weakened to a tropical rainstorm and will continue to diminish over the mountainous terrain.
This area was also impacted by the first hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Tropical season. Franklin made landfall in Lechuguillas, Mexico on the night of August 9, shortly after reaching it's peak intensity.
The threat for damaging winds has lessened significantly since Katia has moved inland, but flooding problems will mount.
Southern portions of the state of Tamaulipas and eastern portions of Veracruz will be hit hard by Katia's downpours and significant flooding. Downpours will be enhanced due to the mountainous terrain.
According to the Associated Press, two people died in a mudslide in the state of Veracruz due heavy rain from Katia.
Rain from Katia will reach Mexico City later Saturday into Sunday.

"Rainfall totals will average 5 to 10 inches with localized 15- to 20-inch amounts," Kottlowski said. "This will lead to life-threatening flash flooding and, for the higher terrain, mudslides."
Some roads could be impassable due to flooding and washouts.
The high terrain will cause Katia to weaken rapidly as it spreads inland into Sunday, and it is not expected to reach areas impacted by Friday's earthquake.
