Sky-gazers in Manhattan gathered in the streets May 28-29, 2013, to view the phenomenon nicknamed Manhattanhenge.

The biannual event celebrates the sun's near-perfect alignment with the New York City grid, where light is cast on the north and south sides of every cross street in the borough.

Manhattanhenge occurs in both May and July and draws crowds of camera-toting sky-gazers hoping capture the rare phenomenon. The next opportunity will be July 12-13, 2013.
