Two main weather events will dominate Europe through Saturday. The first is a slow-moving storm system that will bring locally heavy rainfall and the threat of flooding to eastern Europe.

The storm moved across central Europe on Tuesday, causing showers across France, Belgium and Germany. Heavier rain and thunderstorms occurred from Italy into the Balkan Peninsula.

The storm has now taken up residency across eastern Europe and will continue to produce pockets of moderate to heavy rain through the weekend.

Thursday will feature the heaviest rainfall targeting areas from northern Bosnia and Herzegovina and northern Croatia through Hungary, Slovakia and southeast Poland.

Gusty winds will make the day even less desirable to be outside across these areas.

Total rainfall through Saturday will average 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) across the region with local amounts near 125 mm (5 inches).

Such a widespread area of heavy rain over several days will lead to swollen rivers and the threat of flooding.

Some cities which could experience heavy rain and possible flooding include Krakow, Poland; Budapest, Hungary; Belgrade, Serbia; and Bucharest, Romania.

On the other side of the continent, a large area of high pressure building into western Europe will supply largely dry weather to areas from the Ireland and the United Kingdom through Belgium, Netherlands, France and Spain.

Most of these areas will also experience above-normal warmth through at least Saturday as partly to mostly sunny skies prevail.

A shower will occasionally dot the United Kingdom during this time, but dry weather will win out. A shower or thunderstorm will also briefly ease the warmth across Portugal on Friday.

On Sunday, a storm will spread showers and cooler air across Ireland and the United Kingdom.

This storm will push showers, thunderstorms and cooler air into Spain, Portugal and western France Monday through Tuesday.
