Storm onslaught to resume in Pacific Northwest this week

By Faith Eherts, AccuWeather meteorologist

Following a brief reprieve from rain, snow and wind in the Northwest this past weekend, another system was already moving onshore at the start of the week.

Those in the far northern Sacramento Valley can expect a drenching day to kick off Thanksgiving week. Meanwhile, wintry precipitation will overspread the interior Northwest.

“Several inches of snow will fall in the Washington Cascades near pass level. Farther south, in Oregon and California, snow levels will be too high to bring wintry conditions to the passes,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Max Vido said.

However, “the main focus for hazardous travel weather this week will remain near the coast and into British Columbia,” he said.

A fresh round of rain will slam into the coast by Tuesday, this time accompanied by more widespread wind impacts and an influx of mild air.

“Several more rounds of moisture will lash the Pacific Northwest Coast through Thanksgiving,” Vido said.

Localized flooding could become hazardous to motorists, along with restricted travel through mountain passes.

However, “with rising snow levels, residents will have to contend with mainly wet roads,” he said.

Temperatures during the middle of the week are expected to reach nearly 10 degrees Fahrenheit above average as a result of these warmer storms.

Numerous record highs will be challenged across the West, including in Seattle and Portland.

Conditions will then gradually cool down as moisture continues to stream into the region from the Pacific Ocean through the end of the week.
