Spring snow visits parts of northeastern US amid weekend chill

The second half of the weekend will bring more snow to a part of the northeastern United States.
Fresh chill has plunged into the Northeast behind a storm that soaked the region with rain and severe thunderstorms to end this past week.
Residents across central New York and neighboring parts of Pennsylvania also saw the return of snow showers on Saturday.
With more snow on the way, some people may be wondering if the calendar is really on the verge of flipping to May.
This is the same storm that first brought a late season snowfall to northern Illinois, including Chicago, and neighboring parts of Iowa and Wisconsin on Saturday.
Light snow and a rain and snow mix was reported in Jamestown, New York, and Bradford, Pennsylvania, early Sunday morning.
"Wet snow or a rain and snow mix will shift eastward across central New York state and the high ground of northeastern Pennsylvania through Sunday morning," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brian Wimer.
The swath of snow is expected north of Interstate 80 to around I-90 in Pennsylvania and New York.
There is the potential for the snow to come down at a quick-enough pace for a coating to an inch or two to accumulate, mainly over the higher ground and on non-paved surfaces.

Rain will dampen areas to the south of the snow zone.
"It will be too warm for the snow to continue its journey eastward along I-90 to Boston," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski. "Instead, anyone with outdoor plans, such as watching the Red Sox host the Tampa Bay Rays, will need rain gear."
Temperatures will bottom out on Sunday night as the sky clears behind this quick-hitting batch of snow and rain.
A freeze is expected to occur across most interior locations and even the northwestern suburbs of the I-95 cities could turn frosty.
Residents should make sure they protect any budding sensitive plants to prevent them from becoming damaged.
The Northeastern states will be subject to more storms from Monday through Wednesday, though most precipitation with these events is likely to fall in the form of rain.
