Wintry weather was wreaking havoc across the United Kingdom on Saturday. Travel has been brought to a near standstill, while sporting events have been postponed.

Heavy snow falling across London forced British Airways to cancel all flights out of Heathrow International Airport in London between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., local time. The snow forced the entire airport to close for a time, allowing snow clean up efforts to occur on the runways.

High-speed trains operated by Eurostar were experiencing delays due to speed restrictions from London to Paris and Brussels.

The snow will come to an end in London on Saturday night; however, the snow will increase in Paris Saturday night before ending on Sunday. This will likely lead to more travel headaches across western Europe.

This snow storm brought has much as 25 cm of snow to some areas with widespread amounts of 6-12 cm across much of the United Kingdom. Snowfall totals around Paris are could be as much as 15 cm by the end of the day on Sunday.

Sports have also been impacted by this latest wintry blast. Most of the Premier League matches for the weekend have been postponed, including the much-anticipated match between Chelsea and Manchester United originally scheduled for Sunday.

The weather could continue to play havoc on sports across the United Kingdom as cold temperatures and periods of snow are possible through the first half of next week.
