Rain on the Way for World Cup Semi-Final

    By By Eric Leister, Meteorologist
    July 09, 2014, 8:20:34 AM EDT

While largely dry weather is expected for Tuesday's semi-final between Brazil and Germany, rain will have a much larger impact on Wednesday's semi-final between Netherlands and Argentina.

Wednesday's match will take place in Sao Paulo, where occasional rain leading up to and during the match will likely affect the strategies of both teams.

The rain could fall heavily at times, especially late in the day and at night. As a result, the heavy rain could arrive prior to the end of the match.

Along with the rain, temperatures will be seasonably cool, hovering in the lower 60s F (16-17 C) throughout the match.

Sao Paulo averages only 1.69 inches (42.9 mm) during the month of July; however, the storm system that will impact the region through Thursday morning could bring a month's worth of rain in only 36 hours.
