Racers and fans will not have to worry about a repeat of Saturday’s significant rain delay for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 qualifying.
"Pole positions for the Indianapolis 500 will be determined on Sunday, and the weather will turn out nicer compared to Saturday," AccuWeather Meteorologist Mike Doll said.
Saturday's qualifying was delayed by several hours after rain and thunderstorms moved through during the midday hours.
"A couple of showers crossed central Indiana during the morning, but dry weather will return before qualifying commences in the afternoon," Doll said.
The afternoon will feature increasing amounts of sunshine and lowering humidity. Fans will be able to trade rain gear for sunglasses and sunscreen.
The recent warmth from Indianapolis will also be trimmed. Temperatures on Sunday will be held to a more seasonable high in the lower 70s F.
Looking ahead to the Memorial Day weekend and the Indy 500 next Sunday, a shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out at some point next weekend with temperatures near to slightly above normal. A high in the middle to upper 70s is more typical in late May.
