Pittsburgh: Risk of Storms to Increase With Humidity This Weekend

By by Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    June 27, 2014, 11:50:15 PM EDT

The risk of thunderstorms will return to the Pittsburgh area this weekend as humidity levels gradually build.

As the flow swings around to the south and southeast over the weekend humidity levels will creep back up.

Higher moisture levels will lead to an increased risk of showers and thunderstorms this weekend, especially during the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday.

Warmth and humidity will build during the first part of next week, before cooler and less humid air returns by Independence Day.

As the very warm and steamy air breaks down, there will be a risk of severe thunderstorms. The most likely day for this is Tuesday into Tuesday night.

Another zone of storms could push through on Wednesday.
