Pittsburgh: Brief Return of Winterlike Chill This Week

    By By Courtney Spamer, Meteorologist
    April 16, 2014, 1:12:56 AM EDT

After the week started with soaring highs in 70s and 80s, temperatures will plummet below normal for the middle of the week.

Spring is the season known for drastic temperature swings, and this week will certainly be an example.

Tuesday's high near 45 degrees will be almost a 30 degree difference from the day before.

Thunder is expected to subside by Tuesday, but as rain tapers off, temperatures will drop throughout the day.

Temperatures will get low enough by Tuesday afternoon that a trace of snow could mix in with rain showers.

A chilling low in the 20s is expected on Tuesday night, cold enough for the rain on some surfaces to freeze for the morning commute Wednesday.

However, temperatures are expected to rebound rather quickly with the return of sunshine. Highs will climb to near 50 on Wednesday and rise near average in the lower 40s on Thursday as sunshine persists.
