Tornadoes touched down in Virginia on Monday afternoon with damage being reported around the state capital of Richmond.

The extent of the damage is still unknown, but there has been at least one fatality in Chesterfield, Virginia, according to WTVR. One injury has also been reported.

Strong thunderstorms blossomed over central Virginia early Monday afternoon. As the afternoon progressed, some of these storms turned severe and became capable of spinning up tornadoes.

Several tornado-warned thunderstorms tracked over the Richmond and Chesterfield areas, forcing people to seek shelter. Due to the timing of the severe storms, some schools in the area delayed dismissals.
