NYC: Surf to Build as Bertha Remains Offshore at Midweek

By By Kristina Pydynowski, senior meteorologist
    August 06, 2014, 3:17:27 AM EDT

While surf will build at midweek, Bertha will remain well offshore of New York City.

Temperatures will rebound to more typical August highs by Tuesday.

Highs are forecast to be in the middle 80s Tuesday and Wednesday. The average high for early August is 84 F.

More humid conditions will contribute to higher RealFeel® temperatures.

Only very spotty storms are forecast for Tuesday.

More numerous showers and thunderstorms are projected for Wednesday.

For those planning to spending time at the beach, Wednesday's storms will coincide when Bertha causes surf to build and raises the risk of strong rip currents.

The showers and storms will not be associated with Bertha but rather a cool front approaching from the Midwest.

In the front's wake, the door will open for less humid air to arrive for late in the week. Temperatures will be shaved by a few degrees.
