Harrisburg: Warm but Unsettled Weekend in Store

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will be near the edge of warm air late in the week. The warmth will win out, but showers and thunderstorms will tag along.

After a cool Wednesday, temperatures will surge into the 80s over much of Virginia, western Maryland and western Pennsylvania Thursday. A person driving from Pittsburgh to New York City may notice temperatures falling from 85 to 55 F.

The warmth is forecast to move into the Harrisburg area by Friday, while areas to the east stay cool and cloudy.

The warmth will hold in the area this weekend but moisture will arrive from the Gulf of Mexico.

As a storm system moves along in the warm, humid air from the Gulf, locally drenching showers and thunderstorms are in the offing on Saturday. Enough rain could fall in a short time to cause flash and urban flooding problems.

The wet weather will fade Saturday night as it turns drier just in time for Mother's Day. Sunshine will mix with clouds on Sunday as highs soar into the lower 80s.
