Downpours to subside for shoppers, travelers across Florida this weekend
Following a stormy Thanksgiving holiday, conditions will improve across the Sunshine State for shoppers and travelers this weekend.
A system that doused the Peninsula on Thanksgiving pushed out to sea early on Friday.
Gainesville, Florida, shattered their previous daily rainfall record on Thursday when 2.53 inches fell. The old record of 0.93 inches of rain was set back in 1977.
“By this weekend, the Sunshine State will be living up to its name as the rain pushes out into the Atlantic Ocean,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson said.
Saturday and Sunday will offer the best weather for returning or departing motorists and airline passengers.
Those who wish to get a jump start on holiday decorating should take advantage of the weather this weekend. Shoppers partaking in Small Business Saturday can leave the umbrellas and raincoats at home as there will be plenty of sunshine both days.
The air will cool slightly from Saturday to Sunday with temperatures dropping by up to 5 degrees Fahrenheit, mainly across the panhandle.
Early next week, a system over the Bahamas may trigger spotty showers across the peninsula, but significant rainfall is expected to remain absent into the start of December.
