Charlotte, NC: Storm Strikes as Arctic Air Settles In

By By Alex Sosnowski, senior meteorologist.
    January 29, 2014, 11:33:12 PM EST

A winter storm will affect the Charlotte, N.C., area with enough snow to cause slippery and dangerous travel into early Wednesday.

While the region will be on the northwestern fringe of the storm, enough snow will fall to cause disruptions to daily activities and travel throughout the I-77 and I-85 corridors in the Carolinas.

Folks heading to the east or south of Charlotte will face even worse weather as the heavier snow is forecast in eastern North Carolina and mid-state South Carolina.

Temperatures will plummet into the teens early Wednesday morning and will struggle to reach the freezing mark Wednesday.

Snow and icy patches will melt late in the week as temperatures trend upward into the 50s.

However, motorists and pedestrians are advised to be cautious as areas made wet during the day may turn icy at night.
