One person died in a French tourist plane crash Saturday afternoon in Page, Arizona, officials said.

Five others were injured after the plane crashed about 500 feet short of the runway in a landing during windy conditions at the Page Municipal Airport, The Associated Press reported.

The plane, a Cessna 207, was carrying a French tourist group at the time of the crash around 3:39 p.m. MDT, the Arizona Republic reported.

It was 78 degrees F with a broken cloud deck at 10,000 to 15,000 feet at the time, AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

"There were southwest winds of 10 mph with gusts to around 20 mph at 3:00 pm their time; no gusts were reported at 4 p.m.," he said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is assisting in the investigation.
