Emergency crews rescued boaters on Lake Norman in North Carolina after several sailboats capsized in severe weather Wednesday night.

According to the Huntersville Fire Department, approximately five or six sailboats overturned near Blythe Landing as storms and wind blasted through the area. The boaters were part of a Lake Norman sailing school.

Officials said all 26 boaters from a Lake Norman sailing club are accounted for and there were no injuries.

"There was a line of thunderstorms that moved over Lake Norman around 6 p.m. EDT. These storms caused some damage in the area with strong winds downing some trees. It was likely that high winds accompanied the storms as they crossed Lake Norman," AccuWeather Meteorologist David Samuhel said.

"The thunderstorms intensified quickly as they approached the lake as indicated by radar," Samuhel said.
