As Hurricane Cristobal tracks toward the North Atlantic, well off the United States coast, surf conditions will gradually by the Labor Day weekend.
Cristobal will continue to bring dangerous rip currents and rough surf from Virginia to southern New England through Thursday.
Surf conditions will slowly diminish from south to north on Friday along the Atlantic coast. However, dangerous surf may continue for a time in eastern New England.
Swim only in waters under the watchful eye of lifeguards.
According to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski, "We expect Cristobal to remain well east of the United States and to steer well north of Bermuda."
Cristobal will bring large waves well offshore of New England and the Maritime Provinces. Cristobal remains a concern for deep sea fishing and shipping interests. Waves will average 15 to 30 feet.
As the Cristobal transitions to a non-tropical system, it may greatly strengthen over the North Atlantic late this week and may pass close to Iceland on Sunday.
According to AccuWeather International Meteorologist Eric Leister, "The fast-moving storm will bring heavy rain, gusty winds and rough seas to Iceland for a day or two."
Bermuda, located well off the Carolina coast in the Atlantic and a popular tourist destination, will see improving weather conditions Friday with the storm well off to the north.
Elsewhere in the tropical Atlantic, there are several additional systems being monitored.
One is an area of showers and thunderstorms spinning westward over the Gulf of Mexico. This system will be pushed onshore in Texas late this week, but prior to land fall, it has the potential to become the next system of significance during the 2014 Atlantic season.
Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Marie continued to weaken well off the coast of Mexico and California. However, since this was once a Category 5 hurricane and already generated huge swells, these will continue to reach the coast of Southern California and Baja California, Mexico, in the from of large breakers and dangerous rip currents through Thursday.
