An updated map on the snowstorm across the South is below. I pulled the snow area back into the western Carolinas and Virginia to cover for the light snow that is coming northeast from Tennessee. The big snow will remain across the eastern Carolinas where over a foot may fall. This is a major storm for the South given that they don't see that much snow and ice.
The pattern becomes even stormier this weekend into next week and beyond as the cold weather hangs on across the North and the South warms up. The contrast in temperatures will lead to some big snow potential with the storms that will cross the country. The map below shows where the initial area of snow will fall from this weekend and next week. The storm midweek is the one to watch for snow over a foot since the heat and humidity will drive thunderstorms into the cold air. It's a wild pattern shaping up, one that may mean dusting off the Big Daddy hat.
