Southern Snows Part of the southern Branch Jet

    1/27/2014, 9:25:41 AM

    Commentary

The snowstorm across the South is part of the change in the pattern that will result in a more active southern branch of the jet. It does not mean the cold is magically going away, it means now you get bigger snowstorms. The cold should remain across the northern Plains, but the South is going to get warmer. Mix the two air masses together, and you get a big storms during February. I do think we will see some storms with over a foot of snow. Even the storm tomorrow will produce heavy snow across the eastern Carolinas and some places may get 15-17 inches of snow. The storm Friday and Saturday will produce over 6 inches of snow from Illinois to western Pennsylvania.

The storm next week is on my radar because not only will it produce heavy snow with over a foot, but it may also produce severe weather across the South. The South will get snow this week and severe weather next week. Even the West will start to get rain and snow. It's wild pattern...!
