Winter is not going to end, in fact, this February could be one of the top 10 snowiest and cold for February. While I don't think we will see the extreme cold, we will certainly see below normal cold weather across the northern Tier of the country while the South heats up. The contrast will lead to some big storms that can produce heavy amounts of snow. Even this weekend, the storm while weak, can produce snow up to 6-8 inches in the swath shown on the map below. Following that storm, we have another next week that may produce 12-16 inches of snow because thunderstorms get involved. That's only the storm. The active southern branch of the jet will produce more storms that will occasionally phase with the northern branch resulting in big storms.
While I am done with winter, the pattern remains wild for the weather weenies out there.
