Heavy rain will fall across parts of eastern Australia into this weekend bringing relief to areas that continue to endure drought conditions.

Australia 10/3

While the rainfall is vitally needed for some areas, especially the agricultural belts of New South Wales, there will also be the risk for flooding.

In additional to the risk for flooding, travel delays will be common across New South Wales and far southeastern Queensland.

Areas at risk for these hazards include Sydney, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Australia GFS 10/3

In general, rainfall will average 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) in these areas; however, up to 100 mm (4 inches) will be possible just north of Sydney in Gosford, Central Coast and Newcastle.

This is more than the normal total rainfall for the month of October in these ares which is roughly 60-75 mm (2.35-3.00 inches).

While areas from Canberra to Melbourne will miss out on much of the rainfall through this weekend, a new storm will bring the potential for rainfall early next week.
