Long-range weather pattern update

Pacific air masses will dominate as we get into late April and May, while the coldest air will retreat to the far north where it belongs, as high-latitude blocking breaks down.

Down here in the mountains of Pennsylvania, where I live, the trees are flowering about a week earlier than usual. This may be due in part to recent mild weather, but also due to a tremendous amount of available water in the ground, which is likely giving an early season boost to flowering.




**Great Lakes ice extent currently stands at 7.8% coverage, with most of that high over the extreme eastern section of Lake Erie, Georgian Bay and along the edges of Lake Superior. Last year on this date the percentage was 6.0% coverage.
