The USGS announced the formation of a new island of lava in Hawaii, after fissures of lava from the recent Kilauea volcano eruption caused it to form. The island has since then connected back to the main island.
Several dozen villagers living on the tiny western Greenland island of Innaarsuit were forced to evacuate as this 300-foot tall iceberg moved dangerously close. The iceberg is reportedly 650 feet wide and rises almost 300 feet into the air. Residents worry a chunk could break off and unleash a tsunami upon the town.
