Thursday night will feature hundreds of meteors streaking across the night sky as the Geminid shower reaches its peak.
As we get closer to the end of 2018, the night sky saves its best show for last, the Geminid Meteor Shower. Catch up to 120 meteors per hour in its peak on the night of Dec. 13-14.

While a storm is set to bring mostly rain and thunderstorms to much of the south-central United States into Friday, snow is forecast to fall on its tail end in some locations.

While the next storm on the way for the eastern United States will be warmer when compared to last weekend's storm, it may create trouble in the South in the form of flooding as rain and thunderstorms beginning late this week.
Flash flooding hit Wangaratta, Victoria, on Thursday, Dec. 13, after heavy rainfall lashed the state. The flooding caused the closure of the Hume Freeway between Barnawartha and Wangaratta; other footage on Facebook showed numerous vehicles in floodwaters on the freeway.

The volcanic area west of Naples, Italy, is stirring with early signs of a new caldera cycle for one of the world's most menacing supervolcanoes, according to new research.
The Geminid meteors passed over the skies of Akela, New Mexico, on December 14. This timelapse shows shows an hour of star trails, moving left to right, with meteor trails intersecting them.
Temperatures in the Arctic are rising at twice the global rate, sparking an array of changes unlike anything seen in recorded history. One of the most striking examples is the region's sea ice, which is now declining by about 13 percent per decade, with the 12 lowest seasonal minimums all recorded in the last 12 years.
