A parade to celebrate NBA star and Prince George's County native Kevin Durant is set to kickoff Thursday morning in his hometown.
The Kevin Durant Day parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Judith P. Hoyer Montessori School located at 929 Hill Road in Landover. The parade will travel down Seat Pleasant Drive to Addison Road and last about an hour. Access to roads around the parade route will be limited until after the parade is over around 12 p.m.
28-year-old Durant grew up in Seat Pleasant and was selected second overall in the 2007 NBA draft.
A year ago, he was considered the NBA's most coveted free agent. Locals had hoped he would sign with the hometown Washington Wizards. Instead, Durant joined Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games in the NBA Finals and Durant claimed the league's MVP award.
County Executive Rushern L. Baker and Seat Pleasant Mayor Eugene Grant will be in attendance. The parade is being held to celebrate his accomplishments on the field as well as his commitment to his hometown community.
The Team Durant AAU Basketball team, the Central High School ROTC, and marching bands from schools across the area will participate.
Originally, a festival was scheduled to follow the parade but was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.More
