Police praised an alert teacher's quick response for leading them to a student they say was in possession of a gun on a Prince George's County high school campus.
The incident happened at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Officers say a teacher notified a student resource officer about a possible trespasser on campus.
The student resource officer responded and was able to identify the person in question as a former student. They also learned that the former student had met with a current student earlier in the day.
Police say the student resource officer then met with the current student and found a gun in their possession.
The campus was placed on lockdown for about an hour.
Officers say the current student was taken into custody. Investigators also say the former student was seen on video leaving the school grounds.
No injuries were reported.
