Dozens of NFL players and coaches protest national anthem Sunday

NFL players across the league are protesting the National Anthem in various ways today.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters today that the team will stay in the locker room. However, he said that the decision is not in protest to the national anthem.

"We're not going to play politics," said Tomlin, "We're football players, we're football coaches. We're not participating in the anthem today. Not to be disrespectful to the anthem, to remove ourselves from the circumstance".

The Steelers take on the Chicago Bears today at 10:00 a.m.

-- NFL Update (@MySportsUpdate) September 24, 2017 About two dozen players, including Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, took a knee during the playing of the national anthem before the start of the teams' game at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Players on both teams and Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who were not kneeling, remained locked arm-in-arm throughout the playing of the national anthem and "God Save The Queen," the national anthem of Britain.

No players knelt during the playing of the British national anthem.

President Donald Trump told a rally in Alabama Friday that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during "The Star-Spangled Banner."

The suggestion has been denounced by the National Football League and its players' union, among others.

Additionally, the singer of the natioanl anthem at the Lions-Falcons game ended the song while kneeling.
