LAFD investigating house explosion in Canoga Park

An explosion rocked a home in Canoga Park Wednesday afternoon, but it was unclear if anyone was seriously injured.

A building - possibly a garage or a converted home in the 7500 block of North Sale Ave has been completely destroyed. Neighboring homes have been damaged as well, as our helicopter showed three properties nearby being damaged, as doors were damaged, windows blown out and walls crumbling.

The blast was reported just after 3 p.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

There were initial reports of one possible patient, Stewart said.

Firefighters were evaluating several children at the scene, but none appeared to be seriously hurt.

They also rescued a dog from the residence on the property. That dog may have injuries.

Crews worked to make sure all utilities were shut off and the Southern California Gas Company responded to the home
