Head-on crash leaves 2 children in critical condition

A six and seven year old boy are in critical condition after the car they were in was hit head-on. Florida Highway Patrol Officers say the crash was on Starkey Road and 102 nd Avenue North, Sunday afternoon. Karen Thaxton, 32 of Seminole was driving north in the outside lane of Starkey Road just south of 102 nd Avenue North with the two small children in her car.

That's when Micah Callahan, 26 of Jacksonville lost control of his vehicle. Officers say the tires of Callahan's car had minimal tread and came in contact with standing water on the road, causing him to lose control. Callahan's 2001 Toyota Rav 4 then crossed the center median and crashed head-on into Thaxton's 2006 Chevy Equinox. Officers say Thaxton was ejected from her car and suffered minor injuries, Callahan was uninjured.
