Beach Hazards Statement
Beach Hazards Statement in effect until Monday, 9:00 PM PST. Source: U.S. National Weather Service
...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY
* HAZARDS...Elevated surf of 6 to 9 feet and strong rip currents
are expected through Monday evening on west to northwest facing
beaches. Local max sets to 10 feet will be possible Sunday night
into Monday evening. The combination of elevated surf and high
astronomical tides around mid-morning today and Monday may
result in minor tidal overflow in low lying areas.
* Impacts...There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
breaking waves can cause injury...wash people off beaches and
rocks...and capsize small boats near shore.
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Swim near a
lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.
