A heart breaks every time a dog is tied up outside a coffee shop. It’s an unfortunate reality that not every establishment treats man’s best friend like they deserve to be treated.

But Sunday, Aug. 26, is National Dog Day. And in honor of the important holiday, we’re demanding respect for our pets and urging all dog owners to bring their furry companions with them everywhere, from the park to the street to a sit-down restaurant. It is their day, after all.

So in order to make this easier, Yelp compiled a list of the nation’s most dog-friendly cities. In these 10 places, dogs run untethered through parks and sit alongside their owners during dinner. The locations were chosen based on each city’s number of dog parks, dog walkers, and dog-friendly restaurants, hotels, and beaches.

Get the leash ready, prepare your pooper scooper, and throw the dog a bone. These 10 cities are the best places in the country for celebrating National Dog Day. Here’s where you should go.

Arlington, Virginia

If you’re looking for some dog-friendly spots around the nation’s capital, you’ll have better luck heading across the Potomac River to Arlington. There are eight county dog parks, alongside numerous restaurants and cafes where dogs are welcome. Pick up a quick bite at the Paramount Cafe, linger over a pint at The Celtic House Irish Pub, or dine on a menu of Balkan cuisine with fido at Ambar.

Tampa, Florida

If your dog loves to run on the beach (and has been a good boy), take him to Tampa. Davis Island Dog Beach and Picnic Island Beach Dog Park will let dogs run free and crash in the waves. Head back into town for a pick-me-up at Ginger Beard Coffee, Farmacy Vegan Kitchen for acai bowls and the like or c.1949for a beer garden party, complete with pets.

West Hollywood, California

While Hollywood may be no place for a dog without an agent, West Hollywood is one of Los Angeles’ best hoods for the average pup. WeHo dogs get run of a park with K9 artificial turf and water fountains specifically designed for four-legged patrons. When a dog needs to be seen at the hottest restaurants in town, pet-friendly options include Flavor of India for curries, Otus Thai Kitchen & Coffee for a twist on a Thai breakfast, or Smith & Tait for something typically LA like a tumeric latte.

Dallas, Texas

With Texas heat, Dallas has plenty of restaurants with open-air terraces, perfect for dining with your dog. Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar offers a wide variety of pies and drinks and Open Sesame is a great choice if your pet’s food tastes include Lebanese. Let your dog run off the calories at White Rock Lake, a 1,015-acre space with 9.3 miles of trails and (as the name would suggest) a lake for swimming.

Portland, Oregon

Portland is the perfect destination for dogs with eclectic taste. Portland has not only been kept weird, but dog-friendly, too. It’s one of the only places outside of France where dogs are welcome in bars. Thus, the selection of places to take your dog is pretty vast. Dine on pasta at Gumba, sit outside the taco truck MF Tasty, or throw down mini hamburgers at PDX Sliders.
