New AccuWeather App Grabs Top Honors for WMO International Weather App Awards 2020
AccuWeather app recognized in 3 categories for awards that celebrate innovation, meteorological content, user-friendliness and state-of-the-art design
AccuWeather Global Weather Center, December 17, 2020 – AccuWeather today announced it has been recognized in three categories for the 2020 World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) International Weather App Awards. The newly designed app, launched in July of 2020, incorporated new and significant enhancements to current features based on user feedback, combined with the proven Superior Accuracy of AccuWeather forecasts and warnings.
In a highly competitive field of 118 entries the AccuWeather app was chosen in three distinct categories, and specific honors for life-saving weather warnings, among other features, including the top category of “Best Design and Presentation of Information, User-Friendliness; Access and Customization” (Private Sector); as well as “Best User Interface and Data Representation” (Innovation); and “Best Weather Warnings” (Private Sector).

The WMO announced the launch of the awards during the World Meteorological Congress in June 2019 in an effort to guide users in their app selection and support weather organizations in making their products more user-friendly. The awards cover all sectors – public, private, academic, civil society – in a selective process, from a competitive range of entrants. According to the WMO web site, the competition rewards excellence in ever-improving mobile-based applications for weather and climate information. The award winners were publicly announced on December 15, 2020 at an official virtual Awards Ceremony held by WMO.

The reengineered app experience, available to download free across Android and iOS devices, allows everyone from everyday users to weather fanatics to easily access the most up-to-the-minute weather forecasts and data, whenever and wherever they want it.
