Mild and Sunny Skiing in the West, East Keeps Getting Snow With Comfortable Weekend

Mountain weather has a way of balancing out. While Eastern and Midwestern resorts are getting regular dumpings of deep soft "western" style powder and waves of arctic cold. many western resorts continue to ski and ride in milder than normal temperatures with stretches of days with plenty of sunshine.

Western resorts do get tagged with a modest to moderate snowfall from time to time like Monarch and Ski Cooper in Colorado. Their snowcover is still strong and they still have skiing and riding on nearly 100% of their terrain since they picked up good snow during the first few months of the skiing and riding season. Utah ski areas like Deer valley have an excellent selection of well groomed big mountain cruising runs. On milder days, that snow softens very nicely and skiers can carve some of their best turns and Freestylers get nice soft landings in the terrain parks. California mountains have battled long dry warm stretches throughout the winter. They haven't seen the five foot storms and ten foot bases they are used to in other winters. But a visit to many California slopes like Sugar Bowl will still deliver big mountain trails spanning from the summit to the base lodge and they are well groomed and well covered for long cruises in nice weather.

Eastern and Midwestern slopes keep getting snow over and over again and skiers and riders have been bundling up and using their best cold weather gear to ski the best powdery snow in the country. Snowshoe, West Virginia got another 8 inches of fresh snow to start the week and 2 feet of snow over the last 2 weeks. Ski areas all over WV, VA, MD and PA are boasting their best skiing and riding possible with every trail, terrain park and snowtubing zone going strong.

Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire continue to be in the wheelhouse of any storm that comes along. Wachusett, MA and Pat's Peak, NH kicked off the week with another foot of fresh powder. Cruising runs all over New England are soft smooth and quiet at every turn at Okemo, Stowe and Smugglers' Notch, VT and Sunday River, ME. Ungroomed natural trails like steeps, moguls and glades have deep soft snowcover for adavnced skiers. All skiers and riders look forward to more comfortable temperatures this weekend. It will feel great to be outdoors on snow in the Northeast.
