The storm that brought snow to the Cascades of Washington and Oregon Sunday will spread snow across the northern Rockies Sunday night into Monday
On Sunday night, the storm system will turn southeast across Montana. The heaviest snow will fall across the Bitterroot Range in the evening, and shifting southeast across western Wyoming and northern Colorado later at night. This system will weaken as it moves farther inland and becomes cut off from the moisture which was feeding it over the Pacific Ocean. Despite the weakening trend, snowfall will still accumulate 6-12 inches from northern Idaho to northern Colorado with snow levels falling quickly during the overnight hours.
On Monday, the same storm system will start to emerge onto the High Plains. However, as it makes more eastward progress, the storm system will encounter more warm air which will cause it to become more of a rainmaker. A mix of rain and snow will reach the western Dakotas and western Nebraska. If there are minor 1 inch accumulations during the day Monday in the High Plains, it will be mainly across western Nebraska to the north of North Platte.
